Wire9™ Telecom plc is a fully licensed UK public switched telephony network operator (PTT) and also a RIPE registered, multi-homed ISP (Internet Service Provider). This means that Wire9™ has been approved by Ofcom (the UK Telecoms Regulator); RIPE (the Internet Administrative body) and interconnects via a bilateral C7 carrier interconnect to the UK PSTN (primarily via British Telecom plc) to allocate its own telephone numbers and provide all the communications services you might expect to purchase from similarly licensed operators such as Cable & Wireless; Colt and so forth. Wire9™ is not a virtual Telco or reseller/broker (like many `resellers` in the UK) but is one of a few `real` network infrastructure operators that own and operate its own switches and `core network`.

WIre9 is a fully licensed UK operator and ISP. We have powers to issue geographic and non-geographic numbers throughout the UK and operate a BT approved (NIFF tested) PSTN C7 switch/telephone exchange which interconnects to the worldwide PSTN and SS7 signalling network.

Wire9 is also an early adopter of Voice Over IP (VoIP) using SIP and H323 transport directly via our core C7 switch (as opposed to using cheap and often un-reliable third party media gateways to route VoIP traffic).

Wire9`s focus has not been on traditional customer facing Telco services, but is rather orientated towards carrier to carrier sales of highly experimental communications and software systems - leveraging Wire9`s own Intellectual Property and hybrid cutting edge proprietary fixed and mobile network systems.

Wire9™ is a fully convergent operator, in real terms meaning that not only can it offer traditional switching services (both B2B and B2C) but it was also a very early adopter of the now infamous VOIP (Voice over IP) protocols. In fact, Wire9™ has also developed its own proprietary VOIP Gateway - this is a combination of physical hardware and an element of the Wire9™ `IN` Platform that enables carrier and/or customers using Wire9™ to be able to convert their VOIP calls to traditional ISDN TDM (Time Division Multiplexed) calls, the later being the service/protocol used by most carriers to carry voice and data traffic across their switches. Conversely, this Wire9™ systems allows calls to also travel back in the reverse order, so in reality VOIP calls (perhaps made from an end user at home/work on a PC) can be converted by Wire9™ to a real call to any normal telephone (PSTN) or mobile (GSM) anywhere in the World (and of course vice-versa).
