Competition compels call centers to source manpower needs outside Manila

Date Posted: 2007-05-30

Stiff market competition for capable and competent individuals has driven some call center companies to look outside Manila to fill in the thousands of vacant call center seats next year, the top executive of call center firm ClientLogic said.

According to ClientLogic Philippine country manager Danilo Reyes, some of the call center firms have now started looking into provinces and regions south of Manila to get the needed manpower requirements.

"Competition has become stiffer, particularly in getting the right candidates to fill in call center seats. It is no secret that call center firms look for candidates from top Manila schools. But the trend now points to southern Luzon as a possible source of much-needed call center agents," Reyes said.

He added that ClientLogic was one of the firms to go into an expansion binge outside Manila, because of the tight competition for talent in the metropolis.

ClientLogic, a 2,500-seat call center firm based in Metro Manila, is the first call center firm to set up shop in Baguio City.

He said call center firms will be compelled to expand and look elsewhere for talents.

While he did not disclose actual plans for expansion, the executive meanwhile said ClientLogic is on a wait-and-see attitude as the new year unfolds.

"I cannot disclose figures or which entities are coming in next year, but there are major US-based companies that will be coming in 2006. Our expansion is dependent on the requirements and if we will be able to secure contracts with these large companies," he said.

Reyes added that some of the biggest telecommunications firms in the US continue to outsource their customer and sales services in the Philippines.

"There are more coming in, mostly Fortune 1000 companies," Reyes said.

ClientLogic, a subsidiary of Canadian firm Onex Corp., currently operates in 12 countries across North America, Europe and Asia. ClientLogic Philippines Inc. is a joint venture between ClientLogic and Salmat Philippines Inc.

The Philippine office offers a wide range of services including integrated customer acquisition, list management, and brokerage, database design and development, multichannel customers and technical support, and e-Commerce services, among others.
