The culture in the call center is quite different compared to the usual 9-to-5 day jobs. People have this genuine and bountiful love for fun and camaraderie. Since people pretty much have to endure the odd shifts and the irate callers, it’s important to do some fun stuff to relieve stress. One activity that many call center agents look forward to is the theme day.
"Theme days" are days when agents and bosses alike can play dress up. It’s one of the things that can promote fun, teamwork, and creativity. However, some feel that theme days are becoming boring and overrated. So to stir things up a bit, managers and facilitators would have to think of more creative and innovative ways to make theme days more fun and encourage everyone to participate.
One way is by giving away prizes for the winners. A lot would be willing to join and participate if prizes are up for grabs. If cost-cutting gets in the way, then think of ways on how to get those prizes without spending a dime. Ask the company’s business development or marketing department to see if they have excess promotional items that could be handed out to your program’s theme day winners. An exchange deal could also be set with some retail and dining shops. For example, coffee shops can be asked to provide gift certificates. In exchange, their posters or standees will be installed within the operations or the reception area.
Another way is by staying away from the boring and overused themes. Hawaiian Shirts and Crazy Hat days have become predictable and boring. If you’re going to have theme days, be more imaginative. A few more creative and fun theme days are:
• Super Heroes Theme Day. Whether it’s The Avengers, Justice League, or The X-Men, coming to work in super hero costumes can be loads of fun. Of course, everyone has to be reminded about the dress code: No too revealing clothes.
• Fairy Tales Theme Day. Let everyone’s fantasies run wild by playing their favorite fairy tale characters.
• Movies Theme Day. Each team would have to dress up based on their movie of choice. A few cool suggestions could be The Matrix, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, and more.
• Pajamas Theme Day. Imagine your team leader taking in escalations in his overalls. Pajamas theme day is like holding a huge slumber party at work. And ladies, no night gowns please! Better keep things wholesome!
• Dress-Like-A-Toy Theme Day. Ladies can dress like ragdolls or Barbies and the boys can dress up like toy soldiers, G.I. Joes, teddy bears, or puppets.
